Two-Phase Expression Technology
The Medela Freestyle Breast Pump is designed to be convenient, powerful, and comfortable. It offers Medela’s signature Two-Phase Expression technology, designed to mimic your baby’s natural sucking rhythm, as well as one touch let-down, which allows you to switch back and forth between phases freely. The first phase, stimulation, is designed to mimic your baby’s rapid sucking rhythm, when he/she first latches on. The Expression phase is designed to mimic your baby’s slower, deeper sucking rhythm. These two phases, when combined, allow you to express more milk in less time.
Built-In Memory and Pump Timer
The Medela Freestyle Breast Pump offers a handy LCD screen with a digital display that lights up. Not only can you keep track of your vacuum and speed level here, but you can also time your pumping sessions. If you find the perfect pattern, simply save it in the built-in memory. Later, you can press the memory button to access a previous pumping session of your choice.
Comfortable and Convenient
The Medela Freestyle Breast Pump is small and lightweight. In fact, the pump unit itself weighs less than 1 pound, and it fits in the palm of your hand. It has a rechargeable battery that when fully charged allows for 3 hours of pumping. Plus, the Medela Freestyle comes with a hands-free kit that is easy to operate and works with most top flap nursing bra’s, including the Medela Seamless Bra. Therefore you can easily charge it, strap it on with the hands-free kit, and pump while you’re doing chores, or working at the computer.
The Medela Freestyle Breast Pump offers two 24 mm SoftFit Breast Shields designed to massage while you pump. It’s also compatible with all of Medela’s PersonalFit Breast Shields, sold separately. It comes with four 5-ounce containers and lids, a spare parts kit for the breast shields, plenty of extra adapters for the hands-free kit, a power cord, and a removable cooler bag with a contoured ice pack that keeps your milk cool up to 12 hours. Plus, you get a cute black tote that carry’s it all.

Medela Freestyle Breast Pump Review:
After scanning through the 218 reviews on the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump, I’ve come to a few conclusions. First of all, it reviewed pretty well. With 140 out of 218 reviewers rating it 4 to 5 stars, the majority was quite satisfied with this pump. The most loved features, aside from the size and portability, was the pump timer, the 2-phase expression technology, the rechargeable battery and battery life, as well as the SoftFit breast shields. Most were also extremely pleased with the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump performance, saying that the suction was more than enough, and milk expression was extremely efficient.
As for complaints, there were a few reviewers that purchased the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump in hopes that it would help build up their low milk supply. Some were satisfied, while others were disappointed. Personally, I think that the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump is perfect for those who already have an established milk supply. If you’re looking to build up your supply, the Medela Pump In Style may be a better choice. The most common complaint was leaky bottles. If you lean too far forward while pumping, the bottles will leak. Also, it’s a bit noisy, but most electrical breast pumps are. Several reviewers also claimed that the hands-free kit that came with the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump was less then helpful. Several reviewers purchased a Simple Wishes Hands-Free Breast Pump Bra which turned out to be amazing!
There were also a few reviewers that seemed to have trouble with the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump motor, as well as the suction. A couple of them were able to call Medela and get replacement parts shipped to them without charge. Even those that seemed to have problems with their Medela Freestyle would still recommend it, and if they needed to purchase another breast pump, they’d purchase it again.
All in all, the pros seemed to outweigh the cons when it came to customer reviews. Most were extremely satisfied with their Medela Freestyle Breast Pump. Check out some of the customer feedback listed below.
Great handsfree pump!, November 17, 2011
By Jennifer B.,
When deciding which pump to buy, I went back and forth on purchasing the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump verses a more traditional Medela pump. I decided on the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump, and haven’t looked back! This pump is wonderful (if you can say that about a pump!). I have had to pump exclusively since my baby was about 3 months old, and he’s now 8 1/2 months, and the pump is still working as well as it did out of the box. The charge is supposed to last for 3 hours worth of pumping. I pump about 1 1/2-2 hours every day, and have never had an issue with the battery. I simply plug it in at night, and I’m good to go for the next day.
-Easy to use
-Handsfree (but I do NOT recommend their handsfree contraption)
-Good battery life
-Good pump performance
-The handsfree contraption (need to purchase a hands free bustier)
-The clip on the back of the pump
-Inability to sterilize the funnels
As you can see by my rating, the cons are not even enough to deduct a star. Just minor issues that are good to know ahead of time. The Medela Freestyle Breast Pump is worth every penny!
